Qualche tornante dopo un ponte in legno tocchiamo il Gias della Vagliotta Inferiore (mt. 1585) e proseguiamo verso la testata del vallone sempre seguendo il sentiero principale che risale il pendio sulla sinistra pervenendo poi ad un bivio. Volgendo a destra ci abbassiamo di una buona trentina di metri superando una conca oltre la quale il sentiero si fa più vago e riprende a salire (ometti e bollini di vernice rossa); superati i resti di una vecchia miniera svoltiamo decisamente a destra raggiungendo il bivacco Costi Falchero (mt. 2275 - 3h 30'). Di qui in poi il sentiero praticamente scompare e, risalendo la pietraia senza percorso obbligato, ci inoltriamo nell'anfiteatro soprastante piegando progressivamente a destra. Sulla sinistra di un torrione imbocchiamo un canale caratterizzato alla base da rocce bianche nonchè da una vistosa freccia di vernice rossa cui fanno seguito numerosi bollini. Superato il primo zoccolo roccioso tramite una bella ma ripida fessura risaliamo il canale incontrando alcuni altri passaggi che comunque si rivelano sempre meno ostici del primo. Poco prima di raggiungere la forcella dell'Asta pieghiamo a destra su terreno parzialmente erboso e puntiamo alle ultime roccette che precedono la cima dell'Asta Sottana (mt. 2850 - 5h 15'
