Ha qui inizio la cresta vera e propria. Dopo un tratto di rocce più lisce un paio di canaponi conducono al passaggio della Chemineè il quale, benchè attrezzato con catena, richiede un pò di fatica per lasciarsi superare. Dalla sua sommità, comunque, si raggiunge in pochi minuti il rifugio Carrel (mt. 3830 - 4 h). Il secondo giorno ci vede impegnati, ancora al buio, con la cosiddetta Catena della Sveglia. Il tratto di percorso successivo non è così semplice da trovare, specialmente alla sola luce delle frontali, ed occorre portarsi quanto prima presso la cresta. In prossimità di questa una stretta cengia (detta Mauvais Pas) sorvola il piccolo fazzoletto ghiacciato del Linceul e porta alla base dei 30 metri del canapone chiamato Grande Corde. Ormai siamo sulla cresta e, tenendoci prevalentemente sulla sinistra del filo, tocchiamo il Pic Tyndall (mt. 4121) e poi discendiamo brevemente fino al sottostante intaglio dell'Enjambeè. Qui ha inizio la vera e propria Testa del Cervino ed un tratto di risalti rocciosi non difficili ci dà subito il benvenuto. Un breve traverso a destra ci consente di abbordare la Scala Jordan. Seguendo i canaponi torniamo poi a sinistra, percorrendo una placca bella ed esposta, e poi puntiamo decisamente verso l'alto su facili roccette.
