Lasciatoci a destra la scorciatoia per il rifugio Gnifetti, pieghiamo invece a sinistra per tracce di sentiero fino al rifugio Mantova (mt. 3500) dove pernottiamo. Il secondo giorno attacchiamo il ghiacciaio e, dopo essere passati accanto al rifugio Gnifetti, lo risaliamo fino al colle del Lys (mt. 4153). Il ghiacciaio è solcato da un'evidente pista che, in direzione nord, percorriamo senza problemi sino al colle Gnifetti sito tra la punta omonima e la Punta Zumstein. E' verso quest'ultima che puntiamo e dopo una esile cresta nevosa ne tocchiamo i 4563 metri della cima. Tornati al colle risaliamo un facile pendio nevoso onde raggiungere la Punta Gnifetti ove orge la Capanna Regina Margherita (mt. 4554). Abbordandone la cresta nevosa tocchiamo quindi anche la Punta Parrot (mt. 4436) ed il Ludwigshoe (mt. 4342), abbassandoci sino alla sottostante depressione. Qui ci portiamo alla base del ripido pendio nevoso del Corno Nero e lo risaliamo interamente; un breve tratto di roccette consente di toccarne i 4322 metri della cima. Un ultimo pendio in discesa ed un ultimissimo tratto roccioso in salita sono ormai gli unici ostacoli tra noi ed il Cristo delle Vette che sorge sulla gobba del Balmenhorn (mt. 4167).<u><br> <br>
