Dopo un breve traverso a sinistra, nei pressi del Pian dei Morti, esso riprende a salire a stretti tornanti, quindi la pendenza si attenua ed in breve raggiungiamo il rifugio GASTALDI (mt. 2659).Dal rifugio imbocchiamo il sentiero (segnavia 222) che, verso sud, perde un centinaio di metri di dislivello salvo riprendere a salire passando sulla destra della sagoma della Rocca Affinau ove svolta decisamente verso destra. Un ultimo canale detritico culmina con i 3010 metri del colle d'Arnas. Dal valico volgiamo a sinistra ed il primo tratto di cresta non offre particolari difficoltà. Dopo un centinaio di metri di dislivello la cresta si restringe e presenta alcuni tratti abbastanza esposti, alternati da tratti più facili e da diversi divertenti passaggi su roccia generalmente buona. Un ultimo tratto un poco pi ripido culmina infine con i 3302 metri di Punta Maria. Continuando per cresta raggiungiamo anche le non lontanissime Rocce Rosse (mt. 3330).<u><br> <br> </u></span><span style="font-weight: 700">Note di Salita: </span> <span style="font-weight: 400"><br> <br> </span><b><font color="#927E6D">DISCESA:</font></b></font></font><span style="font-weight: 400"><font face="Verdana" size="2"> Pieghiamo a destra in direzione del sottostante ghiacciaio d'Arnàs lungo il quale ci abbassiamo in direzione del colle d'Arnas. Suparati alcuni crepacci (un paio dei quali di ragguardevoli dimensioni) ci portiamo sulla verticale del valico al quale torniamo tramite un breve pendio detritico.
