Al termine di numerosi tornanti attraversiamo una conca dopodichè la traccia piega a destra fino a toccare la cresta precipite su di un vallone parallelo. La seguiamo per un breve tratto; prima di pervenire al colle di Valmiana (3 h 30') deviamo quindi su di una rampa discendente che si dipana sulla destra del filo di cresta e che ci permette il raggiungimento del sottostante passo Cabrera (mt. 2780) perdendo purtroppo un buon centinaio di metri di dislivello. Sulla depressione incombe una breve paretina rocciosa che tuttavia si lascia vincere con più facilità del previsto e che conduce all'anfiteatro morenico del Monte Matto, il quale presenta spesso ampie chiazze di neve anche a stagione inoltrata. Alcuni ometti in pietra ci permettono di orientarci durante la risalita della morena. Noi ci manteniamo preferibilmente sulla nostra destra, puntando verso una marcata depressione posta a destra della cima Est.
