Dal rifugio seguiamo le tracce del sentiero negli sfasciumi che attraversano l'intero versante con un lungo diagonale verso destra al termine del quale abbandoniamo il sentiero e ci caliamo, per facili rocce e sfasciumi, nella sottostante conca detritica che attraversiamo per intero. Al suo termine guadagnamo faticosamente quota andando ad afferrare la larga dorsale sud della nostra montagna. Seguendone il filo raggiungiamo quindi la cresta spartiacque tra la Valle di Susa e la Valle di Viù volgendo quindi a sinistra e percorrendo gli ultimi metri toccando i 3253 metri delle Rocce Rosse. Mantenendoci leggermente a sinistra del filo di cresta raggiungiamo in breve la depressione tra le Rocce Rosse ed il Rocciamelone. Percorrendo le non difficili rocce della cresta orientale di quest'ultimo, sempre tenendoci sulla nostra destra il filo dello spartiacque, saliamo quindi fino ai 3538 metri della vetta del
