Ad una serie di tornanti fa seguito un lungo pianoro al termine del quale si piega, leggermente sulla destra, verso gli alpeggi del Pian di Verra. Ben prima di raggiungere gli alpeggi puntiamo tosto all'evidente crestone morenico discendente direttamente dal ghiacciaio di Verra e lo risaliamo per intero. Ai 3036 metri del rifugio Mezzalama passiamo la notte. Il secondo giorno siamo subito sul ghiacciaio Grande di Verra. Prendendo la direzione del rifugio Lambrunecca passiamo a breve distanza dalla costruzione salvo guadagnare poi il colle di Verra (mt. 3848). Volgendo a sinistra tagliamo alla base il Polluce e ci dirigiamo invece verso la depressione dello Schwarzthorn (mt.3734), nei pressi della quale sorge il bivacco Rossi Volante (mt.3850) che si raggiunge piegando a sinistra e salendo per neve e roccette. Dalla costruzione dapprima volgiamo a sinistra per un tratto e poi prendiamo a salire in maniera più diretta. Giunti quasi sul filo di cresta volgiamo a destra mantenendoci a qualche metro di distanza dal filo del crinale.
