Sempre seguendone la destra idrografica passiamo accanto alle grange del Chiot (mt. 2420) ed alle grange Fons del Rui (mt. 2437) pervenendo ad un ampio pianoro in cui si incontrano due corsi d'acqua. Piegando alla nostra sinistra imbocchiamo il sentiero che sale al lago di Mongioia risalendolo per un tratto salvo poi abbandonarlo per inoltrarci in un ampio vallone che si apre leggermente alla nostra destra. Dopo aver superato un paio di risalti un poco più ripidi, senza comunque mai seguire un percorso obbligato, accediamo ad una conca nevoso-detritica. Volgendo a destra e procedendo su un più ripido pendio detritico tocchiamo in breve la cima del Monte Salza (mt. 3326) da cui si gode di un bellissimo panorama. Riguadagnata la conca sottostante ci dirigiamo, a sudovest, verso il lago di Mongioia. Aggiratolo sulla destra andiamo quindi ad afferrare la cresta meridionale della cima omonima. Essa è percorsa da una traccia che la risale a tornanti. Una ripida lingua di neve che ad un certo punto ci sbarra il camminoè l'unico serio ostacolo che incontriamo sul nostro cammino.
