Più in alto incrociamo nuovamente una rotabile che ben presto si inoltra in un bel vallone. Giunti ad un bivio prendiamo la diramazione di destra che compie un ampio tornante raggiungendo il rifugio Arp (mt. 2400). Dalla costruzione imbocchiamo il sentiero che volge a nord-ovest transitando nei pressi di un laghetto riprendendo quindi a guadagnare quota sino a toccare l'ampia dorsale del soprastante crinale erboso. Volgendo a destra e sempre seguendo il sentiero puntiamo ora decisamente verso la nostra montagna. Dopo un lungo diagonale la traccia compie alcune svolte prima di raggiungere i 3057 metri del Corno Vitello (3 h 15'). Riguadagnata la dorsale erbosa, anzichè piegare a sinistra lungo il sentiero continuiamo a seguirne il filo per alcune centinaia di metri. Quando il cammino si fa più accidentato ci spostiamo sul fianco sinistro del pendio riguadagnando il filo oltre un paio di risalti rocciosi.
